Open Question: how do you make your Flash Drive NOT read-only? How do you re-format your Flash Drive?

READ BEFORE ANSWERING ! these are the directions I fallowed. I whent all the way down to step 8, but when I right click on my Flashdrive their is no Formatting option. Their isnt a formatting option under properties either. Go to "Start". 3-Right click on "My Computer" and select "Manage" and it will popup a window called "Computer Management". 4- Click on "Device Manager". On the right there will show a list and collapse the "Disk drives" tab. 5-Right click on your memory stick ( For those connecting through the PSP it will say "Sony PSP USB Device") and choose "Properties". 6- Go to the "Policies" tab and check the "Optimize for performance" and click "Ok". 7- Go to "Start" and open "My Computer". 8- Right click on your memory stick and choose "Format" and a window will open. 9- Make sure "Fat 32" is selected under "File System". OPTIONAL: You can name your memory stick. 10- Press "Start" and wait a few seconds and you're done! I have no idea if this has anything to do with this but when I go uner properties i says File System CDFS? NOW WHEN I TRY TO MAKE IT NOT READ ONLY when I try clicking the box to REMOVE read-only then when I hit okay it gives me "An error occured applying attributes to the file : Access is denied" my flashdrive wont save anything. Not word documents, not pictures or paint drawings. when I try to save music it tells me that my drive is read-only. I used my flkashdrive once. it has a couple of pictures and a wordperfect document. this is a 16GB so thiers no way it can be full with 4 pictures and a word document. SO thats probably not the problem. I hope thiers some sort of computer wiz out their who knows the answers because I wouldnt live without them : ) -- if not I guess I can keep searching the web till I find the answer. When i try to open my disk drive with the eject button, the small light in between were the controller lights are, would flash once. I have tried to use the paper clip and put it in the holes. I got it open once but it closed right away. I couldn't open it ever since. I have been trying to open it all day and nothing works. BTW i can go on xbox live. Play games on my hard drive and download stuff but i just can't open my xbox disk tray. Another thing I JUST got my xbox back 5 days ago. For sending it in because i got the red ring of death. My little brother downloaded something called Flash Player (not adobe). I'm not sure what it is but after the download was complete and he installed it Firefox just closed. We tried to open it but all we got was a "Sorry FF crashed" . We also tried using IE to and it immediately closes after it opens. Other programs that use the internet works ( Toontown, WoW, etc ) . I'm not sure if it's a worm, malwere, or whatever. System Restore doesn't work (disk error) and Safe Mode seems to try to make us download these bu!!$#!t anti viruses (we have Bull-guard). Nothing seems slowed down and we deleted the download and the file (not sure if it is the file) but FF and IE still won't run. WinBlueSoft said the computer has 719 infections (wtf?). Any ideas on what to do? I can't really trust any cheep-looking spywere removers in the condition my brother's laptops in. And it's running in safe mode (worst mode ever) with this dumb@$$ blue $#!t that always warns me of viruses I don't have. more

I have a white 13" mac laptop, which I bought about two and a half years ago, and it has been working great for me up until today. It has older software, the basic that came with that model (I think it was some form of leopard.... 10.4.something - I'm not sure of the details because I no longer have the box or most of the stuff it came with.) So today I went to turn it on as usual, and it was a bit slow to start up but seemed to be fine. A message popped up at first, saying something about a disk could not be recognized by the disk drive, but I had never put any disk in. I exed out of the message, and went to open Safari. I successfully loaded facebook, and was going to another page when it all froze... I tried to force quit Safari, but it wouldn't work and remained somewhat frozen (I could still move the mouse, though) It then started to make these weird clicking noises I had never heard before, and I had to shut it down using the power button. About an hour later, I tried to turn it on again, and it seemed to be working until a flashing grey folder with a question mark on it popped up. I could not get it to start up normally, after trying several times. Is it possible that the hard drive crashed? If so, what should I do to fix it? more

Got myself an LG GH22NS30, ive already tried some games and moves in which it works fine. Thing is whenever I pop in an audio cd it always seems to get a dirty/damaged disk error in WMP and doesnt play in iTunes. Like I said the drive is working just not with music cd's. Ive already flashed and reinstalled the drivers a few times and switched the sata ports to no avail. Any idea what the prob could be? more

Open Question: My PCI Device won't work and therefore my sound will not?

I have looked everywhere for a fix for my sound, ir works through my headset but not through my speakers which is what I need. I tried reinstalling my drivers but that didn't work. My problem is my PCI device, I found a fix on a website but it was for HP PCs. Also my CD/DVD drive won't work but one thing at a time. My PC is a 5520 Acer laptop AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core Processor If someone could help me this problem it would be greatly appreciated. I had two friends of mine look at this problem and they work in the computer troubleshooting field and they couldn't figure it out. Things that should be working just aren't. Also, reinstalling my OS is out of the question because my CD/DVD drive won't respond to disks and I can't boot from a disk. We tried downloading the XP files to my computer and putting them on an external hard drive and putting them on a flash drive, I have no idea how to fix this problem. Please Help me more

Open Question: Why is my computer failing ro read USB mass storage devices but can read any other USB devices?

My computer is acting a bit strange, if i plug in any USB flash disk it simply says disk not formatted but if i take the same disk to any other machine it works perfectly well. i have tried all the USB ports on the machine it just the same. If i plug any other USB devices like my bluetooth dongle or my wireless modem they work perfectly fine. The machine is an MSI K8MM-V mainboard running with an AMD sepron processor. I AM NOT ASKING IF I CAN PASSWORD PROTECT A FLASH DRIVE, THAT IS NOT WHAT I WANT I remember my old Tech techer used to put passwords on some programs, and when they opened, they said "please type admin password" now, thats easy, but what im wondering is how he would just come over, pop in a floppy disk, and the password would type itself in and it would be entered without the need for him to even touch the keyboard. yesterday i flashed my bios from the hp site, and now it wont do anything but blink lots of lights and beep really loud. the beep code you get is 1 long and 2 short, which means bad timer chip. but i don't see how i could have a bad timer chip just out of no where. plus when you connect a floppy drive it changes the beeping to one short beep repeated, it reads the disk for a while, then stops beeping after about two minutes. then it just sits there. i tried a bios recovery floppy but it isnt working... laptop powers itself on if the battery is in. any help please? more

Ok I am not very good with computers. I tried installing a printer all the software worked but it would not recognize the printer I tried all the usb ports but nothing. So I plugged in my digital camera,mp3 and flash drive and none of the ports recognized these items. The mouse works and the keyboard works on the back ports designated for each of them. I bought this comp refurbished it works great could they be disconnected how can I check I look online and get confused all the language is so technical. I also tried to restore drivers but it asked for a disk I don't have then it asked did I want to go back to a time before but I was afraid. Ok tried that and the front and back USB ports still don't work. Basically I have Backtrack 4 which is a Debian-based linux OS. However, it is a live CD that comes with the KDE desktop environment. I want to edit the ISO image to remove KDE and install the GDE or Ubuntu Desktop environment. I dont want to install the environment inside the OS while it is installed tho because it takes up way too much space. BTW it will be running on a flash drive, not a hard disk. I do not have vista. My PC is a HP, my disk drive is flashing, so i know that the computer knows that there is a disk in there. But nothing is appearing on the screen to help me install sims 3. Which i got for my brithday and am now very dissapointed because i was looking forward to it. I'm playing Resident Evil 4. I walk through the door and there's a cutscene. This is when it freezes. Then the square and the x button appear on the screen surrounded by flashing red.
